Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Pharmaceutical Grade
Celanese’s VitalDose EVA pharmaceutical grade copolymer is an enabling technology for drug-eluting implants.
The VitalDose EVA drug delivery platform is a technology developed for reliable, controlled, and sustained release of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
VitalDose EVA is an ethylene vinyl acetate pharmaceutical grade copolymer commonly used in subcutaneous and ophthalmic implants, as well as intravaginal inserts. These therapeutic forms are designed to meet clinical and patient needs in various areas such as oncology, ophthalmology, the central nervous system, infectious diseases, and women's health.
Why VitalDose EVA?Our controlled-release VitalDose EVA drug delivery platform meets the required chemical and physical properties for various drug formulations. It can be processed at low temperatures, accommodating sensitive biologics (antibodies and RNA), and possesses broad solubility characteristics suitable for small molecules. This ethylene vinyl acetate can be utilized with diverse manufacturing methods and is compatible with additional excipients to meet particular drug formulation, release, and delivery requirements. Furthermore, different pharmaceutical grades of VitalDose EVA can be integrated into a single device to create a precise drug release profile. The below diagram illustrates a hypothetical design where: (1) VitalDose EVA with 40% vinyl acetate serves as a drug matrix and (2) VitalDose EVA with 18% vinyl acetate on the exterior of the implant serves as the rate control membrane. The result is a drug delivery system with high drug loading providing zero-order release characteristics. VitalDose EVA is biostable, enabling the engineering of dosing profiles, such as Zero-order, First-order, or other nonlinear profiles, over extended periods (e.g., months to years). Its durable nature ensures the implant can be removed reliably to halt therapy if needed. It allows for high drug loadings (>75%) while preserving the required mechanical properties. The technology platform accommodates proteins, peptides, and small molecules, offering pharmaceutical formulators and device developers confidence in VitalDose EVA's clinical and commercial track record.
