GUR UHMW-PE

GUR UHMW-PE

Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Medical Grade

GUR UHMW-PE premium grades are ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene used for the manufacture of surgical implants, including the articulating bearing surfaces for hips, knees and shoulders.

Overview

Product overview

What is GUR UHMW-PE?GUR ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) grades 1020, 1050, 1020-E (and 1050-E) are linear polyethylene with a much higher molecular weight than standard PE, which offers outstanding abrasion resistance, superior impact resistance, non-sticking and self-lubricating properties, and excellent mechanical characteristics, even in cryogenic condition.

Why GUR UHMW-PE?As a polyethylene with a very high molecular weight, GUR UHMW-PE premium grades are produced as a powder that requires special processing. In the semi-finished industry, the high pressures generated in compression molding and ram extrusion processes fuse the particles together. The material is then typically formed into stock shapes or profiles. It can also be processed by gelation and pressure less sintering. GUR ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene premium grade uses for orthopedic implants are manufactured for compliance with approval and conformity criteria of regulatory agencies, based on ASTM F648 and ISO 5834-1/-2 (for raw materials and semi-finished products).
