Polysolvan O

Polysolvan O

Glycolic Acid-n-Butylester

Primarily used as a paint additive in the form of a highly effective flow agent, Polysolvan O is a colorless liquid with a very faint, ester-like odor.

Overview

Product overview

Polysolvan O is a clear liquid and has excellent power for a broad range of polymers.

What is Polysolvan O?Poly O is miscible with organic solvents and has excellent dissolving power of polyvinyl acetates, polyvinyl butyrals, nitrocellulose, chlorinated rubber, many natural and synthetic resins. With respect to the thermal stability of Polysolvan O as a “2-hydroxy ester”, reactions such as glycolide formation, transesterification, saponification and etherification occur at elevated temperatures.

Why Polysolvan O?Polysolvan O is used as a blush preventive in cellulose acetate paints and as a wrinkle preventive in alkyd paints, inks and emulsion polymers. In amounts of 3%-5%, it gives nitrocellulose lacquer excellent gloss and smooth flow properties. The addition of Poly O as a high boiling point solvent to stoving finishes effects uniform flow of the paint film. The high dilutability of Polysolvan O has a beneficial effect in all applications.
